I won this FH last weak and was shipped on the 20th and I finally got it. Took only 2 days. Normally I'd opt for cheaper shipping but I only had one option which was $15, which affected how much I was willing to bid on the coins from the seller. I'm pretty happy with the coin, most of the silvering still intact (which made for a difficult photo). It's rate Rare in RIC (which I agree with in this case) but with different headgear for the horseman. Constantius II AE 2 23mm 4.51g D N CONSTAN-TIVS P F AVG, Pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust right / FEL TEMP RE-PARATIO, helmeted soldier standing left, spearing fallen horseman who is wearing a bowl-shaped helmet, clutching the horse's neck. Star in left field. Mintmark SMHA. Heraclea RIC VIII 67 Feel free to share any coins
Thanks all. I only have a couple with noticeable silvering. I get shot down quite a bit too, but better deals always pop up
There are two kinds of horsemen. Randy is into them heavily and is well aware of the rare and the common. If you are just looking for a nice, generic horseman, don't mind being shot down. Let someone else pay too much. It is not like we don't have a dozen new listings every day. If you are trying for some of the ones some of us are actively seeking and don't expect to see again for a decade, plan on competition.
Really nice example of the FH4 variety - usually the horseman is looking down as he's slumping, but yours is looking straight ahead which is an interesting variation.
For those new to the subject: Falling Horsemen are usually divided into four groups of which FH4 shows the victim clutching the neck of his horse. FH3 shows him reaching back to fend off the blow. The first two varieties show the rider on the ground seated in FH2 and kneeling in FH1. There are some variations of each which most people ignore but specialists enjoy. For example there are FH2 coins showing the victim struggling to his feet from the seated position. JA points out the OP coin has the face forward rather than down. The word is that there are 2200 versions of the Horsemen but that number may not include all these little differences so your desires for a complete set may require a few extra coins. For the record, I am not trying to get the set.
One of these may be my favorite but it might be in the next ten or the next. Addiction is a terrible thing.
It's definitely become a problem,I have over 60 now lol. Just a drop in the bucket compared to others.
