What's up with this quarter?

Don't know much at all about coins. Found this quarter with very curious defect (PMD?) I would love to get some opinions from people who know about this stuff. there is a lump of metal right next to a hole on each side directly opposite each other but the hole/lump orientation reverses itself. It's as though someone shot through the coin with a laser at an angle. Hope my description is not too confusing. 20170320_154217.jpg

That is definitely some sort of PSD - Post Strike Damage.
How it was done is unknown.

Where did you get the quarter? Does the previous person know it's provenance?
.. probably not huh? Someone hit the thing with a nail or something.

It doesn't matter how it came to look like this. The point is, it's damaged and worth $.025. Please spend it so someone else can post a few years from now and ask the same question. :)

I think John Doe had just gotten back from Autozone. He put his bag, containing the new part he just purchased, on his work bench. As he set the bag down a few coins, received as change from his purchase, fell out of the bag.
At that moment, his wife came in and began to badger him about the leaky faucet in the bathroom. John had always had a short fuse. He told his wife, "I'll get to it when I get to it. Can't you see I'm busy trying to fix your car?"
As the argument progressed and devolved into personal attacks, Johns anger got the best of him. He picked up the nearest object, which happened to be a wielding hammer, and drove it pointy-end down into the table to express his rage. Unfortunately this coin was in the way of that hammer.

Pink Ford Ranger- a cute little truck for the wifey

In fact, that Ford Ranger is probably the apex of the current marital woes of this couple. Thus, it truly is the cause of this unfortunately damaged coin. The husband had purchased the vehicle used for a great price from a friend-of-a-friend. It appeared to be lightly used and the motor ran well. The owner had been in a minor fender bender and had decided to purchase a new vehicle rather than repair.
His wife wanted either a Chevy Sebring or a compact Honda. There was no way he would own a pile of junk, like a Sebring, nor be seen in possession of any foreign vehicle. It's safe to say that she was not happy with his decision to purchase the small pick-up. In an attempt to appease her, he painted it pink after repairing the body damage himself.
From that point forward, the truck was not nothing but trouble. At first it was the tie-rod ends. Then it was the suspension. Then the electrical connections started acting haywire. However, the husband would never admit his mistake. He was in too deep.

I had a buddy who ran a (not pink) ranger into the ground. He sold it after a series of (probably alcohol related) minor accidents. The new owner fixed the dents and painted it pink. We would see it around town every once in a while in all of it's pink glory.
One time... His battery wouldn't hold a charge (maybe it was the solenoid valve). At the time, he was working as a bar back (alcohol). So, he was leaving work at ~3am with the knowledge that his car wouldn't start.
Luckily it was a manual. He could pop the clutch. He was "experienced" with this. His system was to put the truck was in gear while he held the clutch down with his hand, running along side it to get the truck up to speed ... somehow hopping in (I never did quite figure out the full system... we always got stuck at, "why didn't you just hop in before you put the truck in gear?") The hopping in didn't quite work out and the truck took off across the lot with him in chase.
