Ivan V was a brother of Peter I the Great.

    scottishmoney Buh bye

For most of the reign of Ivan V the real power behind the throne was Princess Sofia. She was ousted from the Kremlin and sent to convent in 1689. Ivan V was never healthy and died in 1696, then 24 year old Peter I consolidated all the power.

Peter travelled to England but was anxious about travelling in a country where they had killed their king in 1649(Charles I) all the while Peter put his first wife Eudoxia in a convent, then married a Latvian peasant who would later become Tsarina Catherine I. And then there is sad tale of Aleksei, his oldest son.

The story of Peter I is one of the most fascinating in history, a very good read.

@panzerman your AV Kopek is fantastic. I know gold strikes well, but yours is well centered and very clear. How big is your coin? (mm / g)

That is what I thought, being an AV Kopek. Yours is a wonderful capture with all of the obverse perimeter beads on coin! Very nicely centered! Nice!
