This is a slightly harder to Find Carson City Morgan dollar than the other Carson City Morgan dollars. The 1879-CC Has one major die variety. There is a clear CC and a CC over CC variety. This is the clear CC variety which is more difficult to find. In total 756,000 coins were Minted. Even in this condition, she’s on the costly side.
Nice pickup! This is the "capped" cc or large cc over small cc and neither clear or capped come cheap lol I still need a clear cc for my full morgan set
Here is my 1879 capped CC. I once helped a family friend sell their accumulation/collection. As I was going through the coins I would put aside ones that I was interested in purchasing. I put them in a 2" x 9.5" box and when we met I gave him the box and said these were ones I wanted to purchase. He handed the box back to me and said it was a gift. He also gave me a similar box with 22 large cents and some early Canadian coins/tokens. He was very happy with my efforts as he realized over 4 x's what a local thief had offered him.
Nice old circulated dollars that will flatten your wallet! I still have not forced myself to pull the trigger on this one yet. It's highly certain I'll never outlay the cash on something that's VG10 or better. It's also difficult to find this coin in it's grade for list price, so much demand for it.
