[edited] Here is a plague coin from the Black Death era.... France AV Mouton d or ND (1360) Paris Mint Jean II le Bon
I only have one coin that fits the time frame and struck right before the plague reached Cologne. It was certainly still in circulation. Walram of Jülich, Archbishopric of Cologne, died in 1349, ten days before a panicked public massacred the Jewish quarter killing essentially the entire Jewish population of the city, blaming the arrival of the plague on them. Though some fought to spare the Jews of the city, panic and financial gain won. As was custom at the time, Jewish citizens were often in charge of loaning money with interest (usury) as the Catholic church forbade Christians from the practice. Through the killing of the lenders, borrowers were now "debt free" and subsequently looted Jewish properties. Some 20 years later Jews were allowed back into the city.
