I was going to take a few more pics of this one before posting it. It's been such a quiet day around here, I figured these were close enough to the in hand look. As if I needed another 80S, but I guess I sold the slabbed ones a while back. This one fills out the early 78 to 82 San Fran. The next years are hard to find and pricey even in the XF range.

    Thanks
The 80S is a real hard coin to grade. You have MS PL and DMPL. and it is an obverse first coin. The reverse can down grade the coin very easily, along with helping the coin keep the grade given to the obv. Rarely, make the obv better.

I see PL/DMPL with this one (pl and dmpl hard to tell apart in photos) as for the grade.. I'd give it a 63
    so MS63PL I'm thinking :D

You took the words right out of my mouth. The problem is, the TPGs are stingy with the PL designation for the 80-82S mint marks because they were so nicely struck and good luster. I've seen lots of them that look PL and yet no PL given. But this could be an exception.

I can agree with the trend here. But I can also see a 64, no PL on the holder. My guess, just to be different.

Actually I did not think about PL or DMPL - I was only thinking which MS number would I swag. From the pictures I want to say MS63PL. :) It is a nice coin - the hits could be less than I think bumping the coin. Morgans in general to me are hard to grade from pictures. The wrong angle or lighting pictures make hits look worse - the perfect lighting does not show the hits as they seem in hand making the grade. This can be true on all the large coins like seated dollars or trade dollars, even peace or Eisenhower dollars. Just my humble opinion.

Mr Man GDJSMP Used to grade them upon true mint state luster. Gossh I would love to see some of the coins he examined looked at. He kinda had a 3 point rule when grading, if the coin wasn't messed with previously. Still wasn't fingered and groped, 3 major contacts in a focal area, on either side kept the coin at a Gem. Grades are mostly perception.

I'll guess 64 PL. I'd really want to see it in hand or in a video or animated GIF to have some idea of the mirrors and contrast, so I'm kind of winging it with that PL guess, but I reckon I'll give it the benefit of the doubt.
