She’s been circulated a lot but all the main details are still there. I bought this coin a number of years ago and I’m glad I did. It’s a 1885 Liberty Head Nickel.
Thanks for sharing this. If you were to sell it, would you price it at around $250-300? Have you ever owned a 1912-S V-Nickel?
Strange, that band of wear (?) just right of center on the reverse. Did it maybe get a little bent along that line, and then circulate more after?
Not interested in selling but it would sell above the price you listed. Yes, I have a 1912-S. I have the complete set in this grade and condition in a Whitman’s folder. I’m only missing the 1913 as only 5 were issued. Lol
Many years ago I tried to assemble a mint set from 1885. I knew the trade dollar was unattainable. The stumbling block was the three cent piece. All I could find were proofs. I was just offered one that was an EF but the price was over $3,000.
"V-nickels" have a tendency to wear like that. The obverse can be a full Good, but the reverse falls short. The 1912 D and S coins are almost always toned when you find them in Mint State. The reason was that the coin blanks were washed in a solution before they were struck. I have these two nickels because they were the first nickel five cent pieces which were struck at a branch mint.
Not at all. I lived to far away from other folks to have a paper route. All my money would have to go to buying gas.
