It’s no secret that coins struck during a dies early die state (EDS) will have the better strike, later on the coins will reflect more and more die stress/wear. IF we say a die is used nowadays for striking 1 million coins, then the first 100-150K will be better struck and by 900K- die retirement stage, that this last 100K will be reflecting chips and cracks. These Revolutionary War quarters are probably still being cranked out by both P and D Mints. I would wager that the cutoff date for this year is somewhere around the 17th of December, just before all the Mint employees take Christmas and New Years time off. Now, it’s too early to tell how many will end up being made but let us all agree to use 400 million or thereabouts, and that means at 1 million per die set, over 400 die sets will have been employed and I dare say that all of these die sets will have been overused.
Ya, lost me at Philly. We don't see many of those around here. And Denver seems to produce better dies, we don't get many IDB's.
