World Coins: Your Newest Acquisition!

I got this Norway 25 ore from 1899 at my LCS recently. It's not a rare coin or anything but I like the way it looks, with all the detail. I haven't been buying silver with the high prices but this one is only about dime sized so it didn't cost too much.

Chile: Republic 8 Reales 1839 So-IJ MS65 NGC

Only one other coin is graded higher.


Argentina: La Rioja. Provincial 8 Reales 1838-R MS65 NGC

Only one other coin is graded higher at 65*.


Central American Republic 8 Reales 1846/2 NG-MA MS64+ NGC

Top pop at both grading services.

 

2 new additions. The first one made me think of @dwhiz


the 2nd is technically a bullion piece but I thought it was neat. Purchased a little over spot price. Oh LOOK. There's a train on that one too.

 

PERU - 8 Reales, 1834-LIMA MM. Lima Mint. NGC MS-66

None graded higher.

 

Today I went to the Central Ohio (CONA) show in Dublin, OH. Didn't find anything I "needed" but still came home with these.

British West Indies 1822 1/16 Dollar. Tiny silver coin.


Portugal ca. 1712-22 10 Reis. There is a hint of a date where it should be. Nice coin aside from that.


Mexico 1813 SUD 8 Reales. I pick these up whenever I see them at reasonable prices. It's a neat series.


1682 Austria Salzburg Bishopric 1/2 Thaler. The nicest coin of the four. I'm pretty sure there is a trace of a mount at 12:00 but it's still nice.

 

A new type for me. This wasn't even on my radar until I saw it.

Comments: The date and mintmark are of that of the original coin. The single countermarking happenned in November 1706 for all these type coins.

Just added this French Colonies 1767 12 Denier


1767 FRENCH COLONIES COPPER "SOU" OR SOL DE 12 DENIERS
In 1767, France issued 1.6 million copper Sols (valued at 9 Deniers) for use in the French Colonies in the Caribbean. The vast majority of these were counterstamped with an oval punch with the letters "RF" (République Française). Many of the counterstamped piece ended up in the American Colonies, where they circulated at the value of one Cent. Because of their presence in "American" change, they are considered part of the American Colonial series, despite their manufacture overseas.

goes well the 1722 dated one I already had.



The 1722 piece is a plate coin in the Martin book.

 

Would seem there is a recent hoard of these 1834 Peru 8 Reales currently hitting the market. Most of them in NGC MS63 or MS64 holders.
