This is a good time to bring up a question. How do the grading services look at spots on a coin like this? Do they knock it down a grade or so?

The sharpness is VF-25, but the spots knock it down. The services might net grade it to Fine-15 or 12, or they might say “VF sharpness, environmental damage.

There is a chance that an expert could lift the spots, but then there would lighter spots. I’d probably leave it alone.

With the spots I’m at a VF-20. Nice for that coin.

Expensive coin, the spots detract from it visually so I'm going down to F15, still a nice coin! :D

VF-20. The spots don't bother me but the facial scratches are distracting. Nevertheless, it's a wonderful old Flowing Hair.

I am at a F15 unless those are some adjustment marks. They are awfully parallel. Possibly a 20 depending on the skin, the spots are unfortunate.
