It could very well be an uncirculated coin but I will go with AU-58. A beautiful coin, lots of little tics, but no obvious large gouges or scratches I can see. I think there is some small points of wear, and I think there is just enough rub in the fields to give it the AU grade. James
This one is tricky! I think the fields have toning, not wear. But I'm not seeing much luster. There appears to be quite a few fine marks. Eye appeal is probably better in hand, based on how I'm interpreting the pictures. I'm going 61. Even still, any UNC Trade Dollar is a big purchase, so congrats on getting a really nice coin!
Unc Details Cleaned ....I don't think there is any wear (so not AU) but the surfaces make me think it has been cleaned at some point (could be the photo though)
Just going to say AU. I really can't get a feel for the coin with those pictures - I think from them I see a touch or 2 of wear. But I could also be way off. Still a nice coin.
Sweet piece. And no bloody chop marks. I hate chop marks. Coming from a distinguished provenance, it gets a bump in grade....'63
This was an extremely difficult coin to grade from pix. First, it straight graded. Second, AU or MS? It has great eye appeal, but it graded out at AU-53. Thanks everyone for playing and giving your honest opinions.
I feel the same way. I was thinking of submitting to CAC instead of trying to resubmit to PCGS or NGC for an upgrade. Thoughts?
Keep in mind that I only have these images to go by. In hand it might look totally different. I think the problem with sending to CAC is the eye appeal is not great (at least, what I'm seeing in this picture). It has been dipped and has some splotchy re-toning. I do not think CAC would approve this coin, even at 53.
