1964d wrong planchet error?

Coin weighs 2.8 grams. Slightly smaller than a regular nickel. Very thin. Any ideas?

I think your coin may have been part of a school sciece experiment, having to do with electrolysis that redused the weight. A soak in mild acids can also produce a coin that look similar to your's.

 

I was thinking the same. Reduced size/weight from a chemical (acid?) reaction.

 

It looks to be acid treated do I agree.

 

My vote is electrolysis

 

I say ACID.

 

That's an Acid Dipped Nickel. Corrosion affected it.

Not a mint error of any kind unfortunately.

 

Mine was in the acid bath a little longer than yours.

 

i have a cent that i believe has been reduced by acid.
