I've always wanted one of these. Many of you know that I collect Bust Halves, but I've always wanted to go back further. Flowing Hair halves have always been beyond my reach - I've never found one in a grade I like, with they eye appeal I wanted, at the price I like, at the same time I had the money saved to afford it. Well... this time it happened. So, guess the Overton (this should be ridiculously easy), and guess the PCGS grade (problem free - the lines on the bust are emphasized due to the direction of my lights). I'm so excited to own this piece!
Congrats PF....nice-looking coin....how has the price for the coin in the grade you wanted changed over the years ? My short-term Dream Coin is a 1908 No Motto Saint in MS-66 condition....my long-term Dream Coin would be an MCMVII High Relief, probably have to settle for AU-58. Both coins have come up in price the last 3-5 years.....the former because it was dragged up by the rise in gold from $1,800 to $5,000....the latter because a small glut from a hoard back in 2018 appears to have been digested. Trophy High Reliefs also drag up the entire sector.

It is graded problem free - the scratches you see are from a poor lighting angle and are regular hairlines from wear. No, I don't think so. Some coins we buy because we like them, they appeal to us, they fill a hole in our set. But some coins we yearn for, wanting it for years, never finding just the right one, and then it comes along... those are dream coins. Might be a rare date, might be a high grade, etc. One of those coins that you want to tell people about.
I remember Mark Feld offered one of the most beautifully toned 1795 half dollars I'd ever seen about 15 years ago for what an average example sells for today. When he was a dealer, he had a weekly email distro and I can remember thinking... one day, I want that coin. That doesn't really answer your question, but it might give you a gauge.
Pro tip.... Some headlight restorer and 15-20 minutes of elbow grease will remove those slab scratches. Just don't let the compound touch the hologram on the reverse. Ask me how I know....
Nice tone but the striation lines and cleaning on both sides would make me very cautious. Have to see it in hand for a proper assessment. If you are happy with it that's all that counts, good luck.
Just - Congratulations. I certainly won’t accidentally insult your dream coin. You wanted it, you got it, that’s good enough for me.
