Well there IS a bunch of them. We all point them out. I'll be interested to see how this new system works out. Hopefully it will weed out the crap that's been going on for WAY too long. What is missing here is that eBay should have some common sense along the way. Sellers with key dates and "slabs" should know you can't sell something for about melt price and be credible. That's what drove me nuts about those stupid eBay bots that refused to remove those garbage sellers.

This guy seems to just be making excuses for a massive corporation who's made billions of dollars on sales and irregardless of what he says I don't think corporations that big much care about people at all. They care about the bottom line more than anything.

I reported that item yesterday as a test case, got their automated reply at 11:06am. I included specific details in my report - that the date looks childish and does not match real examples especially 48, the reverse is missing the designer initials, raised blobs everywhere indicating poorly made transfer dies.

I received this today at 11:29am: "We looked into your report and didn’t find the listing to be in violation of our policy. This determination was made by a customer service agent."

I mean, come on. Seller has zero feedback and it's their only item for sale. Business as usual.

The reality is, the counterfeit passers will continue to sell absolute junk and keep it under $500 to avoid getting canned. 95% of the problem isn't high dollar fake listings, it's the garbage touted as key dates for right around melt price.

Looks fake to me, that Canadian dollar.
Go the the ebay listing and look at the two others below it for sale. Look at the 8. Plus the worn sky stripes.
How was it made. Plaster cast, pewter ?

It/if enforced, I would agree. I would bet if Ebay and the Authority decided to try some of these egregious coins like the Canda set above. And it was made public, it would cut down on many of the fakes we see.

After viewing his listing he sent me an offer of $1,200. I sent him a message telling him I don't buy counterfeits at any price, he responded that it's not counterfeit and called me an ass**** for saying it was.
Don't understand why eBay allows these people on their site.

I'm tempted to report it again and throw some credentials at them - I documented die markers that ID the three reverse dies used to produce these coins, that a specimen die was then used for circulation strikes, and that there is a 4/4 RPD (nearly microscopic) on one of the reverse dies. I know what a real 1948 dollar looks like. But I don't feel like wasting my time. Ebay does not care.

You are correct. All that really matters to them is getting that 13 and a half percent of the sale.

I've already said a couple of times the likelihood is very low that will happen. Last year I spoke to a Secret Service field agent and he regretfully told me they to not prosecute counterfeiting coinage anymore, only paper currency. I am guessing the only avenue for remedy these days is a civil lawsuit. Who has time and money for that?

Okay, new update. Purchased and shipped on August 31st. Just now received today, September 9th, at the "authenticator." So far, I am not impressed with the length of time this is taking.

Well, here is the response from the "authenticators."

All that waiting for nothing?! It was categorized under Morgan dollars, which is exactly what it was sold as (a lot of 20 Morgan dollars). Maybe it didn't go through because it was supposed to be under lots? I don't know, but I am not impressed. I could have authenticated them myself by now.

I guess we'll start seeing the high-ticket fakes listed as "lots", then. :banghead:

Good to see that eBay's newest, mightiest bulwark against fakes is made of the same tissue paper as all their other "protections".

Maybe it has more to do with being multiple coins than being in the wrong category. See quoted post's attachment.

Perhaps. Only now it seems there are still loopholes. Only this time, there is a nice delay added!

This is more confusing than it's worth. So the @JoshuaP purchase was marked Authentication Guarantee but because it's a lot, which is specifically excluded from the process, it's "miscategorized"? Who ships to the authenticator - the seller, or does it go through ebay first? I suspect this whole thing is going to flame out in a few months.

I did get a kick out of exclusion #8 "Additional coins that are ... used as packing materials." What on earth?
