As always, here's a token I got last week off the bay, it's one I've wanted for awhile mainly for the Griffin on the reverse and the Keping cockerel on the obv, unique and it fits right into my collection! kudos to LordM for these contests!

A Sonnet for Three Columbian Coins

"Shall I compare these to a summer’s day?
Three little moons that time could not consume,
That sailed from Ferdinand and Isabel,
To mark the dawn of lands beyond the foam.

The first recalls the age when Columbus sailed,
When royal crowns their silver trust bestowed;
A humble blanca, worn by years, yet hailed
As witness to the paths his vessels rode.

The second gleams from eighteen-ninety-three,
When Chicago hailed that distant quest;
A Columbian half dollar, proud and free,
With history impressed upon its breast.

The third, from ninety-two, brings time full round—
Five hundred years preserved in silvered light;
Three coins, three ages, by the past still bound,
Yet teaching eyes to seek beyond their sight.

Though summer fades, these little pieces stay:
They make the vanished centuries speak today."

I want to lend them to my daughter to show to her 2nd grade class in Virginia to show them that they can hold history in their hands

 

Hi Lord M,

I’d go for the Canadian $5 maple leaf to show my support towards our northern neighbors in these troubled times. However, should an interesting new ancient coin show up later I might be swayed.

I think these two IHC's are awesome and would love to add them to my rather modest error collection! I've only seen one coin before in person that had a 180° rotation error (I think it was a Bust design dime, half or not I do not remember) that was simply out of my price range, and I've wanted this type of error ever since. I would certainly appreciate these coins and look at them quite frequently, so please count me in for this lot!

I'm in for the proof Franklin Half Dollar, I just looked and realized I have no proof Franklin's. I was going to post this last year, but my mind wondered off course. Shows my wife’s humor for my birthday. Great contest, as always @lordmarcovan.

 

Is that in reference to the store chain, ALDI perhaps? Ingenious. LOL. I'll be 60 this October. I wonder the shirt I'll get from the wife this year.

I should like to go for the 550-490 BC silver 1/12 stater; lion and stellate pattern.
I haven't bought an ancient for some time, and this is about as ancient as you can get.

I'm a bit unsure of the prize I'd like to select if the random number generator were to pick this post. The one common denominator for my choice are the coins @Eric Babula donated to your giveaways @lordmarcovan. The two Braided Hair Cents or the Flying Eagle Cent would be slot fillers for my 7070.
