The dark spots on both sides are distracting for sure. Would NGC restoration service be able to get rid of these spots and then possibly grade this one? s-l1600-1.jpeg s-l1600-2.jpeg

Key date but I doubt it would straight grade after any restoration work.

I'd give the gal a soak in weapons grade (Home Depot) acetone to see if any of those spots diminish. If nothing happens, and you're feeling lucky and flush with funds, try conservation at NGC.

Restoration makes a great looking coin but destroys the value greatly. I would attempt what Green18 suggest but use your own conscience as your guide! Leave it alone...

guess the main question is how much do the spots detract from its value. Looks like an au sharpness coin to me so around 300 retail.

That looks like pure toning to me, not any kind of acetone- or water-soluble foreign material. If so, dipping would take it right off, but leave the coin unnaturally bright.

These have come down in price since I lucked into mine (about 15 years ago), but it's still a key date.
