Ok, it's not quite complete, I just have so little interest in those tiny half dimes and only a little more interest in the dimes - but here's the rest of my 1840 mint set... including a couple of dimes.
It's been a while since anyone posted on this thread so there's been plenty of time to complete some more sets. Let's see'em......
Alright then. I'll offer this. Always wanted a coin display for my office. Something cool that would spark conversation but not be so valuable that I would be afraid to leave it on my office wall. I think this little high grade war coinage set fit the bill nicely. And it was fun to put together.
Ikes in a Dansco, digitally labeled. Sans the proof coins which are in OGP. This set follows the current Red Book as far as varieties included.
My set of Barber dime hub type transition varieties. I thought it was complete, but we've recently confirmed that there is also a 1901-S Obverse 1 anomaly. One more to go! I acquired the 1901 Proof Reverse 3 after this image was taken. I added 1892 and 1916 to have the first and last of the series/types. Took me about 5-6 years to put it together. Almost there - 95% but really just missing one half dime in 1840 mint set. I like the year because it's old and the largest coin is the Eagle, no double eagle. I had to accept a details grade 1840 D quarter eagle because a full grade of that coin would be in the 10's of thousands. The one I got "AU details, scratched" is actually very nice. It was in an ICG xf details holder - I cracked it and sent it to NGC and got the AU details. The scratch looks like a deep bag mark to me....

And one of the half dollars in a Medium letters (O) - minted in New Orleans with a reverse from 39, when the mint mark was on the obverse. Interesting piece. It qualified as meeting the half dollar slot in two ways, but I have a regular Philly half dollar in there too. You can tell the reverse of 39 because the eagles tongue shows just a wee bit. But not on the regular 1840 reverse. Here's the 1840 D 1/4 eagle, AU details!
