Found next to the Coin Star

When I go to the grocery store I always check the Coin Star machine reject tray, but it's been awhile since I found anything. When I went this weekend the first thing I noticed was two coins on the floor in front of it that looked to be stuck together. Then I noticed there was a dustpan sitting against the wall by the machine and there were a bunch of coins in it. It might seem a little gross but I grabbed them all and shoved them in my pocket to look at later. Most of them were sticky but I just washed them off and it's free money. The best was three silver dimes, with the oldest a 1942 Mercury dime.

I remember reading on here before someone talking about finding coins in the garbage next to the machine. I think what happens is the worker comes to empty the machine, and somewhere in the machine there's a place where coins go that can't be counted but don't get rejected for some reason. The worker is not allowed to keep this so they throw it away. Considering there were three silver coins in this, I wonder how much gets thrown away around the country from these machines? It's too bad it's just random chance to find the coins like this and you can't somehow get someone to save them for you. I found $2.36 in regular coins and three silver dimes. Might not be life changing but it's free money.

Wow! Nice score. I'd have done a little "dumpster diving" myself, in that scenario. You're a hero for rescuing them. ;)

Note to self: next time, see if there's a trash receptacle near the CoinStar machine...
