Yes, I remember it well. I wasn't really traumatized then, either.

 

I believe the gag was "Buy this magazine or we'll shoot this dog."

 

C'mon! Unlike Leeroy who's hiding (?) now, John was clearly kidding and also posted his eBay handle when you challenged him.

 

If you have an agreement via bid system and the seller backs out you can leave negative feedback..

Also you can apparently be the buyer that backs out because he didn't have the dosh to complete the deal, asked the seller to wait two weeks, then buy the thing again, not pay and leave not one - but two negative feedbacks.


What a loser!

 

Yup. As I recall, they did catch some grief for it -- but taking such things seriously wasn't really the fashion in that day.
