I am having a lean time collecting in my core areas and as tends to happen at these times I get very easily distracted into other areas. This coin is an example of just such a circumstance. I was very taken with the portrait. I have had a very on/off collecting relationship with the folles of Lugdunum. I have built up a collection in the past and parted with it but there is often something that draws me back. Constantius Chlorus - Follis Obv:– CONSTANTIVS NOB CAES, Laureate, cuirassed bust right Rev:– GENIO POPV-LI ROMANI, Genius standing left, modius on head, naked but for chalmys over left shoulder, right holding patera, left cornucopia Minted in Lugdunum (A | _ /LP). A.D. 298 (Bastien A.D. 297) Reference(s) – Bastien XI 96 (V-L 2 examples cited with this legend break). RIC VI Lugdunum 39a (Rated Scarce) 10.25 gms, 27.70 mm. 0 degrees Bastien notes two different reverse legend breaks with P-V being slightly more commonly encountered with 4 examples cited. The number of examples cited by Bastien would seem to agree with the RIC rating of Scarce. Finding these with decent silvering seems to prove quite difficult though they do turn up on the market every couple of years. I like the style of the portrait, which is very distinctively Constantius Chlorus, and the overall condition is quite good. I plan to keep this one and add to it in the near future. I feel yet another sub-collection coming on.
This example is from the same issue as the OP but had a Laureate head instead. This one has a long, thin neck whilst others in the same issue have a shorter, thick neck.
