Howdy doody folks! I thought I'd share this here as a GTG to see what yous all think of it. Let er rip, and reveal in about 48 hours! Good luck!
MS 66 ...not full steps ...attractive looking coin that is relatively clean and has some solid eye appeal which could push it up from a technical 65 at PCGS
MS-63. Incomplete steps, dull dome lines, shallow frontage behind columns. Other than these small issues a very nice coin. I would not pass it up congrats.
The luster is good, but definitely not enough to be anything above a 66. I think it has just a few too many contact marks for a 66, but just barely. That combined with the somewhat above average eye appeal, I'm guessing MS-65+, no FS.
I think it graded MS65, definitely not FS. This is how I think PCGS would grade for this year. But I agree with @Mr.Q that it has weakly defined structure in the reverse-center, and personally think it should grade MS63 too. I wouldn’t grade it higher if all of the design is not there (weak strike?). The rest of the coin reflects MS elements and it has superb luster. I don’t know what secret parameter PCGS uses to account for the obvious lack of detail in the center of the reverse. IMO.
Here's the reveal! I was mostly expecting the coin to get FS, but I was really aiming for a 66+ or better. Maybe the cheek chatter held it back, maybe a slightly weak strike is to blame? All in all, this was mostly in line with my goal for grading it. I'm kinda surprised that nobody guessed Full Steps. It's hard to tell FS on '38 Jeffersons, but I poured over this one and compared it to everything I could find to cross check myself, so I was feeling confident when I mailed it out months ago. Anyways, thanks for all the guesses! Better luck next time!
