Who cares?...they are a drain on the minting process...a pain to retail and banks. IMHO, wheaties will INCREASE in value. THIS ONE (a proof 71) is very collectible.

Our coinage is sort of a mixture of English and metric with most measurements specified in millimeters and grams but really given down to hundredths of a mm or thousandth of an inch so neither is exactly even. With the exception of the cent which is exactly 3/4" diameter and the cent and nickel which are exactly 2.500 and 5.000 grams in weight.

The 5 cent nickel coin was the USA's first metric coin in 1866.

Looks like it was last year when they found it. So must have been one of those clickbait links I saw the other day

When the US Mint gets around to eliminating the cent then, officially, everything I collect is obsolete.

Back in 1974 we went through a cent shortage. Now there were billions of them available then too, and the mint was still striking cents, but within three months some businesses were already beginning to switch over to 5 cent rounding. Let the mint STOP making them and they will disappear quickly.

it now costs the mint more than a cent to make a cent, and same goes for the nickel
which should, along with the cent, be eliminated. then the dime would in effect become the new “penny”. Then they could be continued to be minted each year in limited quantities to satisfy collectors. I could see this, pennies (and nickels) from each mint in uncirculated, brilliant proof, and satin finish version. Would make a nice buck for the guvmint and could help reduce the national debt.

I don't know, but it seems to me in this MTV/Youtube culture...the guys who know coins really well don't realize how insane the rest of the world is...My money (My free money) is on roll searching and waiting for the dime to drop, so to speak.
