In a swap deal with NEN, I just traded down my semi-key Walking Liberty half type coin from a 1938-D PCGS MS65 to a much more common date 1944 in the same grade, and got four other coins in the deal (I did have to chip in a little bit of additional cash on my end of the swap.)

I figured I’d rather fill some type set holes instead of having the better-date Walker, since I’m essentially a casual Type collector rather than a Walker half date collector.

The token was from an antebellum daguerreotype gallery, which I thought was neat. And the 1944 quarter and half were from my late mother’s birthyear. I already had the 1944 dime. The SLQ is not designated FH but is pretty close. The Peace dollar is my first MS66 of the type, and replaces a really flashy PCGS MS65 OGH I recently swapped off to @Randy Abercrombie.




This also just landed in my mailbox this afternoon, from DLRC.

Normally I'm very disciplined in buying coins only for my Type set with very specific criteria. See my website here for more about my coin criteria if you are curious. I already own a great example of the Low-relief Peace, and yet, when I saw this coin I had to have it.

Since one of my Type set criteria is "affordable", in some series that means nice examples of very low numeric grade coins (e.g. grade Poor 01 - Good 6). Over the ~12 years or so working on my Type set, I have come to the realization that I love these smooth, pleasing, "lowball" coins, and I have recently decided to create a sub-collection of good eye appeal, CAC approved, lowballs.

Just pulled the trigger on this. Circa 1990 old NGC holder. I’m looking forward to seeing this one in hand. Even with these less-than-ideal pics, you can tell there’s some nice subtle colors there, and luster. If I don’t flip it first, this will be going off to @messydesk for imaging and then into my collection.
