Error Coin on the Bay!

    There's this gold coin on ebay, 1903 McKinley Gold Dollar and the seller has it listed as an error, I don't think so, but what you all think? And check out that sale price! :smuggrin:

    It was mounted to a pin or something similar.

    It seems kinda silly to me to think that the mint could have produced that. There would have to be a big hole in the die but then where did the metal come from to fill it?

    It is damaged, it had been mounted (as pehaps a button, cufflink, pin, etc), and has had the mount badly removed - you can even see where the additional gold was soldered.

    Another bizarre listing on the bay! :D Yeah this seller is out to get a stupid buyer to buy his gold, that's eff'd up! :shame:

    There's an error there, all right. Right there in the title, where they call it an "error".
