Hi Guys & Gals, Try as I might I cannot identify my metal detecting find. Pics are going to be terrible. I have pulled out the following words but cannot raise a date. The words appeared to have flattened out or collapsed and some are partial. Any help would be much appreciated. Hope you all have been well in my absence. The words are COMMERCE-BAS-CANADA-MONTREAL-UN SOL-AGRICU (lture?) Possible token?
Hmmmm, kinda like a Canadian hard times token. Wikipedia has a more detailed entry: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bouquet_sou
It is a mid-late 1830s Lower Canadian 'Bouquet Sou,' a bank token with a value equivalent to a British Halfpenny (widely used in the Canadas at that time). There are many types, and without better photos, I can't really offer more of an ID.
Geez, thanks. Wish I was around more often. So much to do here. Gardens were extraordinary this year. Busy, busy. Hope you are well.
Thanks so very much. It did come out better in a scan than I thought. Not worth much but very interesting to have found in these parts of the Berkshires in Massachusetts. Thanks again, appreciated!
Yes, very busy here also. Both at home and the antique shop are crazy. I’ve really missed you on CT and glad to hear all is well with you. I’m doing as well as can be expected. Take care my friend.
