Am I missing something? According to price guide lists, there weren’t any nickels coined in Philadelphia in 1969. And other than war nickels the P wasn’t on either side until 1980.
Okay, I goofed. I asked AI the wrong question. The mint mark was moved in 1968, but the "P" mint mark was not used until 1980. I tell you far more about coins which were minted 200 years ago than the ones which were made last week. It's a matter of what interests you, and moderns are mostly on my backburner.
There was no 1969-P issued. It is without any doubt 1989-P. Enough of the 8 and the second 9 are visible to confirm this.
I can never remember this stuff either but I vaguely recalled that the P first appeared in 1979 on the SBA dollars (other than the war nickels). Confirmed by looking at price guides. I really thought I was missing something. I tested AI with a coin a while back just to see, and got a bunch of nonsense. Haven't used it since.
