Hello, I bought this Alexander the Great drachm online, but I'm not sure if it's authentic. The porosity on the surface reminds me of bubbles, but I'm new to the hobby, so I'm not really sure what to look for. Any opinions are welcome! Weight: 4.1 g Diameter: 16 mm
The porosity is not a problem. From what I can see in the images, I'm inclined to think it is authentic (I'm not an expert). My lonely drachm: ALEXANDER III AR Drachm OBVERSE: Head of Herakles right in lionskin headdress REVERSE: ALEXANDROU, Zeus Aetophoros seated left, holding eagle and sceptre. Forepart of Pegasos left in left field, X on W monogram beneath throne Struck at Abydos 325-323 BC 4.2g, 17mm Reference: Price 1505
It looks good to me, just a bit rough but that can be acceptable. I’m by no means an expert and this coin should be seen in hand. Welcome to CT.
