See? A lot of ‘em ended up in the dirt! Probably dropped by folks who had imbibed too much Green River Whiskey! (I rather doubt the slogan that it came with “No Regrets”.) I don’t have a picture of the one I found, but it was reasonably well preserved. Maybe a little better than @paddyman98’s dug example, but not as nice as @ZoidMeister’s non-dug one, obviously. Kind of in between those two.
This one was dug from one of the side streets in Denver. Not really a good for token. Dug this old Pabst Blue ribbon badge from a park in Swansea, N Denver
Come to think of it, I’ve got several other interesting old bar and saloon tokens (and watch fobs, etc.) in my detector finds album. Trouble is, all that stuff was dug before I ever got on the internet or even owned a camera. So there’s no photos of any of it. That’s a project I’ve had on my back burner to do “sometime before I croak”. Hopefully.
I've got a nice assortment . I'll have to do some digging for the details, but there are a wide variety of dies used to strike the Green River Whiskey tokens. Most vary in the background details. Grass, fence, trees, die cracks, and the facial detail of the figure vary. Alignment of the text and singular/plural Whiskey/Whiskies is another. Here are a few that I've picked up. Z
Here are some Civil War tokens. This popular token was on the dust jacket of the old Fuld Civil War Store Cards book. This was the ORIGINAL Friedrich Miller who founded the company. Miller Beer has been owned by many others since then. The company used the "Plank Road Brewery" name for the Red Dog brand when Miller brewing was offering that. This could be redeemed for a glass of beer. This one is rare. My theory is that the company destroyed the tokens after they were redeemed. Philp Best's daughter married a man named Pabst. I am not a beer drinker, but I have seen ads for Blaz Beer which looked like they were from the '40s or '50s. I don't know much about the Bast Brewery.
