I found a 2026 nickel in change today. The first 2026 coin I've come across. Still waiting for a dime!

 

I have one of every 2026 that has been released so far. All from pocket change.

Almost forgot to mention it but on Wednesday found, rejected from the cash handling machine, a 1990 Cayman Islands 10 cent piece. Pretty close to the size of a US nickel, which is what I'm assuming it got confused as.

 

And finally a nickel.

 

Found today: Panama 2018 un decimo de Balboa (1/10 Balboa). In so much better condition than the 1983 one of these I had before that it has detail I never knew existed, like patterns on Balboa's helmet. I always thought it was just a plain helmet before lol. So I guess I'll have to put the upgrade in the book.

 

I probably should be sleeping at this hour on a Sunday, but I was thinking about my 2026 coinage yield thus far. 2 dimes and a nickel. It feels out of step compared to years past but even 2025 coinage seems weak. I wondered if hoarding is an exacerbating factor and if 2009 and 2004/2005 coinage (nickels anyway) releases were sluggish finds initially. The Guam quarter and my less recent 2009 dime got me thinking. But certainly mintage plays a factor as does location. Anyway, it’s what has me awake at the moment.

 

I kind of wonder how the distribution works because I've seen very little of the 250th anniversary stuff circulating. Found quite a few dimes, oddly enough. Only seen 2 of the Mayflower quarters, and quite a few of the Declaration of Independence quarters (my guess is people are searching for the July 4 privy, and dumping the ones that don't have it are putting them into more circulation). Have yet to see a single nickel from this year in circulation.

 

You may be right @Troodon . I’m guessing that it might be like 2009…more elusive than the rest. I would CRH a bit if I had the spare time but not in the cards during the warmer months. Chores consume me.

 

I stash my pocket finds on the table usually ready to look at with a loupe.
I found an early stage retained cud. 84 Lincoln. 1.15 in 250 Nickels and about a dollar in dimes.

 

Can't believe it took this long into the year, but finally found one today: 1776-2026-D nickel!
