Bust Half Dime (1794-1837)

    Bust Half Dime. . wonder what caused parts of the coin to be missing,, this coin is in really bad shape...

    One of those coins that you almost wish could talk..... If I was to reason a guess, I would say that it was holed and worn as an adornment until it was worn so much that the hole just gave way.

    Well, it's a Capped Bust Half Dime, minted from 1829 through 1837. Can't tell anything else about. Probably wouldn't straight-grade.

    If it were a larger coin, it would have made a handy bottle opener.

    As @Randy Abercrombie indicated, it's pretty apparent it was once holed for jewelry or a similar purpose (many of these were). But the metal around the hole subsequently broke off.

    Oh for pete's sake... I pasted an image in that comment above and when I "edit" the post I see it. But in the thread it looks like a broken image. I hereby admit, I appear not to know how to post a simple image to CoinTalk (without committing it to a gallery, in which it would live forever, and frankly, which isn't a good use of storage for a spark plug gapper image in a joke post). sigh
