Nice!! I got one as change from the grocery store back in 2018. Still have it in a sleeve. Also got a few from 1981A and 1985 around that time so someone spent an old collection I guess.
Interesting. I'm going to have to check all of my 1988 dollar bills. I've collected that specific year starting in the late 90's only because 1988 seemed to be the best year of in my life (so far). I've got like 50 of them saved up over the years. Interesting because I would come across one every once in a while (more often than compared to the recent W mint quarters). I would wonder why these would be in circulation after so many years after 1988. Perhaps someone was collecting them for the rarity and when they passed, their kids went on the infamous "treasure hunt" through all of the kitchen drawers and found them but didn't know what they were and spent them. This will give me something to do after work tonight.
Would love to find more one day! This is the only one I found in circulation. I paid for 3 others that are in my collection. Was shocked to see it because very few are probably left in circulation especially in decent shape.

Oh yeah, it's very hard to find a 30+ year old note even in bad shape kicking around. 99% of them probably got pulled by the 2000s Yesterday I actually bought a strap for fun, and a 1963A star note was hiding in there! I'll post it when I have a minute later.
It has probably been at least two decades since I found a web note in circulation. Never found an old star like that though! I suspect that was ex-collection that got spent at FV.
Not a one. Can't believe it. Well, the other possibility is someone hoarded 1988A dollar bills thinking that's what made them web notes and really didn't know what really made them web notes. Finally after many years they figured it out and then put them all back into circulation. My mother did the same thing with bicentennial quarters from 1976. Hoarded them for years and then realized they weren't worth more then face value and turned them into the bank for paper.
I agree... I started thinking about people and their vices... bars, clubs, casinos, etc. probablybget a decent amount of old notes from people who need a fix more than a collection. Kind of sad.
Yeah, I'm seeing a lot of UNC state quarters and ATB series quarters. People thought they'd be rare and valueable by now...
