    Proof sets too...
I know this has been discussed before, but I really wanted to ask those of you who have broken open sets and sent the coins in to be graded: How high of grades do the coins usually come back as? Have any of you had success turning a profit by doing that?

    Thanks!

Some people have broken open Proof Sets to send in coins and have recieved low grades! Many break open the cases and try resubmitting them over ana over again, until hopefully they get a high grade for them!! Your best chance of a high grade is submittion to NGC rather than PCGS!! BUT the most money will be made on a high grade from PCGS!! Case in point the 20th ANNiversary ASE sets, MS69 sets are going for about the same as RAW sets. IF graded by PCGS they will bring more than NGC!! In otherwards it's a CRAP SHOOT!! Good Luck!!

I have broken up proof sets on occasion but not to slab. Just tryinng to make some money back on my virtually useless 2003-S Silver Proof sets.
After you list them individually, pay fees for each auction and the extra time it's not really any different than selling the whole set.

As for high grade coins mint sets don't always really impress me. Unless you're sure you have an extraordinary example I wouldn't bother.

Now if I sent in Proof coins anything that came back less than PR67-68 would be a disappointment. The technology is there to mass produce such proofs.
