I have been slowly building my buffalo nickel collection for a while now but only recently got interested in this particular variety. Why is it so rare? I have heard of the '37 D 3 legged, the '18/7 D, the '16 DDO and the '14/3 varieties, but not really anything about the 1936. I bought about 6,000 buffalo nickels a few years ago, looked through them, and sold the majority. I found a 1935 DDR, but I did not know to look for the 1936 3 1/2 legged. With all the information freely available, that is my mistake. However, how is it worth so much if it doesn't appear to be that popular? Or maybe I am missing something. Do any of you have one? Did you find it? Do you look for them? The reason why I am interested in this is because I recently bought a Buffalo collection that has one in it. I have not received it yet, but have been looking more into it. Here is the coin:
It’s just from polishing the die. Not as famous as the 37-D 3 leg because part of the leg is still present, just faint.
