Now for some of the extras: a Gen 4 prooflike and a Gen 5 deep mirror prooflike. My photos don't show off the mirrors at all but they are there. You could argue that the 1904-O PL is closer to a semi-pl and that it would not meet the stricter standards of today. The DMPL is closer to making the designation but again can be argued that it is more of a PL+ than a DMPL.

Two more of the extras are featured next: a Gen 4 MS 62 UDM and a Gen 5 AU58 deep mirror prooflike.
The UDM, like most of these, has very strong mirrors. I have held a few over the years and they always impress.
The AU 58 DMPL has strong mirrors as well and a bit of wear explains the grade.

And that's the set so far; there is an MS 66 example but it is an "S" (San Francisco mint) so it's not within the parameters but I'll probably post it at some point if an "O" does not show up beforehand.

 

My second effort at an AU 53 proved successful (lost my prior try)! I added this Gen 6 for a reasonable $51 (reasonable in terms of what I'm willing to spend for the set; most would still consider that high for a low AU common date). The coin looks decent (seller's photo, which is below, made it look a bit worse).

 

After a long pause, there are some additions that I did not show previously. We have a Gen 5 VG 10 (a solid circulated coin with no major distractions) and a Gen 6 VG 8 (which has some cuts/marks that were not "smoothed out" from circulation plus a small divot on the reverse).

 

Given the difficulty of finding some of these, there was an exception made to the "O" mint rule to include this Gen 4 VF 25 example from Philly.

 

And a group photo of where the circulated set stands. It has been quite the challenge to find some of these and the search continues for the missing examples.

 

The uncirculated set was easier than the circulated (which I figured to be the case) but it still had challenges. The MS 66 (which has not been mentioned before in this thread) is another exception to the "O" rule, being from San Francisco. And there is no MS 67 (reaffirming my comment at the start that the grade would be a stretch to acquire).

 

@BlackberryPie helped with this one back in 2024. It takes the unofficial spot for the PO 1 grade and I believe is as good as it gets in terms of filling the set.

 

Nice set. I need to search here to see if that grading set for 2 cent pieces was posted. Getting old can't remember who was doing it over at numissociety, but their set was all the same date. I think the issue was some of the lower grades.
