I am still around, but the coin inventory is very limited currently. Contemplating about being an associate member of the Bust Half Nut club.

Good luck with that. Get ready to show proof of everything in your collection and keep it updated with everything you add to the collection. They don't want new members. What is a new member going to get out of it?

 

It’s definitely been a while!

Life has been super busy on my end—mostly balancing college as I push through my business associate degree, along with a few business projects and some travel.

I did manage to make it out to the local coin show recently, but between balancing everything, finding time to post here has been tough. Good to see many familiar active faces! I see we've lost the activity of some amazing people- hopefully everyone's doing ok.

 

I think about your Pogo avatar often.

 

I’ve been spending more time golfing than coining recently. Going to a show tomorrow so maybe it will bring me back into the fold.

 

I got away from numismatics when I took up astronomy in 2020. My wife and daughter bought me a telescope (Celestron 5-inch reflector) for my birthday in 2014 and it took me a few years to put aside numismatics. I was a member of the local astronomical club, served as vice president and volunteered as a star party docent at state parks. I joined the American Astronomical Society and they were looking for an assistant editor. I edited and wrote for "This Month in Astronomical History" for most of 2020 through 2024. Meanwhile, the local coin club got smaller. When I joined in 2011, it was pretty active and I served as secretary and vice president, emailing out a newsletter and supporting the club website. Monthly meetings were always about 30 people with good presentations and guest speakers. It took a hit before Covid, but Covid made a big difference, of course. Unlike the local astronomers, the coin guys did not go virtual. When they came back, they were split into North Side and South Side, and now meetings are about 10 to 15 people each North and South and there is no newsletter. The website is nice https://www.capitalcitycoin.club/ I published my last article in The Numismatist, "Pay Warrants of the Texas Navy," in November 2020 and went off into outer space.

This past March, I bought a denarius of Vespasian with a winged caduceus to put on the base of my monitor with some other coins that I have there. In fact, I just added two 2026 dimes and 2026 quarter than I got in change when I (oddly enough) paid for a small purchase with cash.

I will be at the ANA in Pittsburgh, Tuesday and Wednesday the 25th and 26th.

Will anyone else be there?
