Apparently already being minted to be released this fall.
"It's composed of non-precious metals, but will have a "gold-like finish," the spokesperson said.

No idea on size, but the reverse looks like a half dollar. I wonder if it's $1 golden dollar size or half dollar size.

So is this gold? Or is it "golden" like the other small dollars?

Cool.... The reverse is a dead rip-off of the JFK half. Not that it is a bad thing. I always thought the JFK reverse was quite an attractive design.

Another cheap piece of crap from the mint. It is fake and not good. :) I can promise one of these will not end up on my collection.

Can somebody explain how this is legal?

"It is fake and not good"

    How is it fake?

I don't see anything about it on the US mint site. Will we have to order them by the roll I wonder?

It's a disgrace to our numismatic tradition and should've been laughed out of the room the moment it was suggested.

I wonder exactly what thought processes might have gone into the symbolism here.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

They are using the precedent of the 150th commemorative coin in 1926 that featured Calvin Coolidge, the then sitting president. As a "commemorative" coin, there are more lenient rules.

I was going to respond sarcastically that the reverse is literally just the Great
Seal of America... and then I realized that your post was a sarcastic response itself.... I can't handle it all!

It looks like a half dollar because the half dollar uses the same design, the Great Seal of America. This will be the same size as the Native American/Sacagawea dollar.

No, it's the exact same as the Native American dollar.

It's golden. I'm flagging every Facebook news article i see that calls it a "gold dollar" as misinformation.

Only reason I asked is that there was a big commotion that I recall not long ago about a vastly overpriced Trump gold coin. If I would have read @Clawcoins first post a little closer I would have answered my own question. Bad habit of mine that I need to fix.

Reminds me of the Ankh-Morpork "Nearly Gold Dollar" from Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels. The dollar coin in Ankh-Morpork is not made of gold, but it is very nearly gold...

If it is a $1 coin wouldn't it need to be the same size and weight as the other small dollar coins or it won't work in any machines.
Or is this just some kind of commemorative collectible?
