Still having problems seeing it close enough. Could be a planchet flaw. Clipped planchet? Sorry. Not sure what to call it. Could it be damage from after it was made perhaps? Awaiting more suggestions from the others....
I don't think it's an error, I think it's PMD, someone made it that way! Look at this one on the bay, looks round to me! https://www.ebay.com/itm/236912613996
Look at this image, how can this be PMD and the rim is clean, no damage there also,I think it is related to collar error.
None IMHO The Numista website shows the same rim. 20 Rupees (75th Year of Independence) - India – Numista But a post mint alteration was done to the edge.
If there was a feature to upload a video, I can prove that there is no PMD done on this coin. See the rim from all sides. I am sure something went wrong with the collar.
This coins rim is made of 12-edged polygon shape and rim where भारत is present in the coin , where we can see the error , the side of the polygon is longer than a typical side of the other sides.
But the thickness of my coin is 2.15 mm whereas the above coins thickness is 2.8 mm. So what do you think ?
According to chatgpt, this is a Partial collar (misaligned collar) strike causing an uneven broad rim, and it is a sought after error and it is worth around 2000 rupees but I want conformation from you experts.
Are you referring to the edge of the coin or the rim of the coin (they are two distinct things on a coin). Looks like it could be a tilted die strike.
When I said "the side of the polygon is longer than a typical side of the other sides" I was referring to the rim of the coin.
I don't totally believe everything chatgpt states. Be careful with the information it gives, many times it is misinformation unfortunately.
