Any thoughts on this as to value? I didn’t know they even existed but the “web” says they are collectible and I see some listed for interesting amounts, let’s say. I picked it up in a group of coins and am trying to figure out the best way to sell it.
I have wondered the same thing. I have one which I bought before I could afford an example of the real thing. Once I had it, it was kind of like "kissing your sister." It's just not very exciting. It's a decent copy, but still it's not "the coin."
I bought a beautiful two ounce proof Gobrecht dollar copy. I dream of having a Gobrecht dollar one day..... As lovely as it is, I gave silver spot for it and wouldn't expect anything other than spot when I let it go.
Since Gallery Mint is out of business, these pieces might be worth a little more. Gallery Mint issued a “1796 Proof set” at one point with the gold.
I bought the copper and silver set in the wood box when it came out. I don't remember what year that was. It would be nice if the coins have some value over just the silver value.
Gallery mint made some very very nice reproductions before they went out of business... not stamping "copy" on a good number of their pieces was part of the problem, with a little "pocket wear" more then one has made it past the graders. (not by me but I know of at least 2 that did so, shame shame )
