The date is the first thing I always check. Compare that to the genuine one posted a few posts later. Everything about the date is completely wrong.
I am with Larry, the hair is very unnatural for a Morgan. Her facial portrait is far too masculine in appearance….. But the big giveaway to me is the perfectly sprayed toning around the rim of the reverse. I almost hate to say that on a public forum because I believe the counterfeiters study what we say. I would bet you a donut to a bucket of mud that a magnet would stick to it.
I try not to point out specific flaws because there's scammers that browse the web for such information so that they might try to tweak their methods to maybe get some passable specimens. Lots of things have already been pointed out, but the weight is a great tell, as is matching up VAM's. Obviously, magnetic Morgans are 100% fake, but the finer details are incredibly tough to mimic.
As others have said, first thing I noted is the cartoonish hair and then the date being wrong. Then everything else. Personally I’ve don’t think the counterfeiters bother reading forums and improving based on what people say when there are so many more people out there who haven’t improved with detecting them. Why bother?
Definitely fake. It looks like there was a slightly better job done on the reverse but the obverse is a dead giveaway.
Got caught up in a work crunch and couldn't get back to this until now, but thanks to all who contributed to my granddaughter's numismatic education.
