To be honest, I don't know for sure, but, something about it makes me suspicious. Nothing concrete.

I have bought many coins from Lucernae without any problems or questions of authenticity. Antonio at Lucernae has always been good to me. If you have purchased from reputable dealers why not send your coins for authenticity. You paid enough for the coins for sure.

For an 850 euro coin I think this one is worth the 50 euro investment to send it to Sear to get an opinion on authenticity.

Bite the bullet and send it in man. You'll feel much better afterward no matter what the outcome :)

I have read some negative reviews about the store before. Some were saying they sold both counterfeits and authentic coins. Never bought from them before myself though.

Ya, 850 and not sure send it to Sear. Or return it if you can. I can not sit here and offer any other advice. Like Steve says, if there is doubt then there is doubt.

    I can understand Ro's problem.

Option1 : Sending off to Sear is an option, but as far as I know D. Sear is in the U.S (?), so sending if off from Europe to the U.S entails some risk.

Another solution is to look for a local (i.e European) ancient authenticator.
I am sure there are some, although I have never used them.

(In the past I have asked for the professional opinion of some long-time ancient coin dealers who know a lot more than I do. I was happy with that).

    Option 2: Return the coin.

    Hi ro,

I like your posts they're always very interesting! I'm not an expert but I always wonder if a coin is counterfeit when the images on the front and back are perfectly centered. I know that alignment of the image effects the value of the coin. I didn't see your coin on either of these replica sites but here are some to compare against:
