Freedom Ringing – Liberty Bell One Ounce Gold Coin | U.S. Mint Shop Semiquincentennial Coins and Medals | U.S. Mint
The FIRST non-round coin in recent U.S. history!!1! Sure, that's gotta be worth 4-5 times spot. Bozos. Bozos pushing novelty coins. "Extremely limited" mintage of 2,026 - why, that's lower than the First Spouse gold coins, and look at what they've traded for! (Spoiler: they trade for spot.) Bozos, I say.
NAh, just a little history from the 250th birthday. I would gladly add a bit of that history to my collection, I don't have the money.
The Mint Director is too big for his britches. First these are medals, not coins, which limits the demand for them. Second the prices are totally out of line, even for “created rarities” with limited mintages. I hope that these things do not take up space in the Red Book. They don’t deserve it. I would classify these thing as high priced exonumismatic junk. If a private mint issued these thing at that price, it would be the laughing stock of the numismatic community, if they got any notice at all.
I think they're actually kind of neat, but not that neat. Part of the appeal might be that the gold ones are the first $125 and $250 coins made by the United States.
I think that the people that buy these have so much money they don't know what to do with it. Waaaay out of my league.
What the hell is that thing? The placement of the P makes it hideous, and the palm trees growing out of Independence Hall makes it even more hideous.
