    I’m in Thailand and got this 5 baht in change. Clearly PMD but it seems that someone deliberately tried to erase the king’s image. Hard to capture in images but the portrait is completely flattened. Interesting because whoever did it was taking a big risk. They take insulting the royal family very seriously here.

    King Bhumibol Adulyadej passed away in 2016.
    That coin was last minted in 2008. Anything could have affected the image to appear that way. Maybe it was used under a leg of a wobbly table to stabilize it? o_O

    Spouse is Thai. We spend time there every couple years.

    Probably not much risk for a farang since I’d just play dumb. Propping up a table with the king’s face would be just as bad!
