Ok, here's a franklin half, what do you guys think the grade is? Its in an ANACS slab. About 30% of the scratches are on the holder.

It looks like AU55 cleaned to me. Am I seeing an awful lot of contact marks or is that on the slab?

About 30% of the scratches are on the slab. Oh, and some of the things that look like scratches are breaks in the toning.

looks AU at best... not all of them can be bag marks... I'd say AU-50. Do I win the game???

Lol, you will find out in a bit. I got it for a pretty good deal (a dollar over melt).

Okay, NGC graded, and I'll guess MS-63, but it should have been lower.

MS 63? I always have a hard time grading Franklins...they all look circulated because of the lack of design detail.

Hard to tell without having the coin in hand, but I'll go with ANACS MS62

Its ANACS AU-50, Mike, you were right! I personally don't see any reason why this coin isn't unc though, no wear.

my guess would be either au-58 or ms-62.

The coin may not look to have any wear, but you need to peek underneath the toning. You will see breaks in the luster I guarantee, but only on the highest points of the design. The coin then retoned after the wear was imparted. What I saw was a large number of marks that couldn't have all been bagmarks if they used this one as a target for an entire bag. Therefore, some of the marks had to come from circulation. The coin then retoned and looks as if it was laying between two small objects for a very long period of time before being submitted for grading.

Hope that helps you to see what I saw.
