I purchased a Judaean coin 2 years ago from a VCOINS dealer and learned that it had tooling and surface alteration issues when I submitted it for certification (during my slabbing era). I suspect that it may have been the same dealer that you speak of. The experience reenforced my practice of only purchasing from a few trusted dealers and ones recommended by members of this forum.
Yes, well, like I said, I received a full refund and was able to keep the coin. I'm disappointed in the coin of course, but it will do as a place holder until I can find another. And because I won't put it back on the market, I suppose it will stay in my collection marked with the problems associated with it.
