Is this an error?

Decided to look through my wheat cents with a magnifying glass. Found a few interesting coins but this is the only one that look to me like it might be an error. It's on the left wheat ear.

Just a stinkin' Lincoln Die chip.

 

Die chip, commonly called an interior die break (IDB) now. This is minor and common but yes an error. Does not command a substantive premium of any kind.

 

So is it something common?

Well it's still interesting. First time I've found an error of any kind.

 

It’s a die chip. They are very common and they can be found anywhere on a coin. No extra value for them but it’s nice to have them.

 

Found another coin, can't tell if this is damage or some kind of error. It's the u in trust, it looks kinda square compared to the other coins.

If you look at the bottom of the U you can see a small scrape. Copper is soft and it doesn’t take much of a hit to move it.

 

Another die chip?

 

If you mean the C in CENT, that’s not a die chip. The C was hit and that soft copper moved.

 

Must be what happened. I need to get a coin microscope or something, it's hard for me to see some of the tiny stuff with just a magnifying glass.

 

A 10x is all the magnifications you need. The more you magnify a coin the more you’ll find wrong with it.
