I strongly suspect this coin as a fake after I got it home in hand and looked at it under the magnified glass. Initially I thought it was just harshly cleaned due to the brightness; it contrasts next to other denars. Additionally, on the edge, it has flaked and the base metal is showing. Been wanting one of these for a while (the longest year), but not feeling like this is authentic. Putting this in the group for discussion and educational purposes. T. It looks okay from the pictures just over cleaned as you said. You are also mixing terms. When base metal is showing that is a fouree; which is an ancient fake; but I don't see that from your pictures. Below is a fouree with bronze showing-
Thanks @Victor_Clark. I didn't think this is a fourree as it doesn't seem to have non-silver metal inside, but I wasn't sure how to properly describe it. The section of the rim where the surface metal seems to be flaked off appears darker and more grainy than the surface. Details on the Obv. and Rev. are excellent for this coin, which also has me suspicious. I'd be very happy if this coin is good.
Yes, your coin has some porosity; which strengthens the authenticity, as this would take centuries to happen.
