I almost hesitate to bring this up, but I came across this article that talks a bit more about the proposed Donald Trump gold coin: https://www.newsweek.com/us-mint-donald-trump-gold-coins-250-anniversary-delay-11967439 Some highlights: The coin was intended to be ready by July 4, but won't be. Only "47" specimens will be made. The coins will not be struck, but will be individually machined from... ...a "variable weight" of gold, approximately 19.7 ounces. EACH. If those mintage and weight figures have been published previously, I haven't seen them. Still no word on face value or (obviously) issue price. Any chance we can discuss this without a political flameout?
That's what the article said, and it seems to match the "$90,000 worth" elsewhere in the article. So... a $400 face value for a "quadruple Union"?
Sounds like this thread is taking a left turn...LOL Hopefully there a standard 1 OZ GOLD coin, and at a reasonable premium but I guess thats wishful thinking
Thankfully, this one looks like us coming together to bash the newest Mint scheme to make millions from status collectors, which is something we can all agree on. We can have years of unedited posts that really tell the story how much hand sanitizer the Mint has drank over the years. (that was actually a thing 6 years ago)
19.8 ounces of gold? I predict that it will have a small mintage. That would be almost 8 times heavier than Panama - Pacific $50 gold slug.
Trade some of the gold you have for one, I guarantee the premium will be much higher than a 100G's, at the start, and only 47 pieces
Every single one of them will wind up in the hands of the very well healed. I doubt any of them will even make it into the market.
Probably not for years, I imagine a few will flip them for a healthy profit, unless they are only a dignitary type item, then I agree 100%
