I have an item that I recently purchased from an Ebay seller. The seller frequently unloads large batches of ancients that are not identified, often listed as "restrikes". I know that some are clearly modern replicas. Others are not.

This one came in with an envelope indicating it was sold at Superior Galleries - The 1976 C.O.I.N. Auction sale, Los Angeles 15-16-17-18-19 June 1976. I was able to track down a copy of the auction document to confirm that it was the same coin.

I am assuming it is truly a fake. What do you think?

Having read what you wrote about the seller, it's hard not to be very suspicious of this coin. But, if it's fake, I can't tell it from your image. I can only hope it is authentic.

The surfaces and pits make me think it's a cast fake. But I could be wrong. Do you have a weight, and photos of the edge?

It weighs 2.4g. Not the greatest edge shots, but the best I can do with a USB.
