Here's a coin purchased with zero regard for the holder or the esthetics of the coin. I have to find out who catalogued this coin and recognized it as an undescribed DM. 1855-O NGC AU55 - Undescribed die marriage - No known obverse has a die crack between stars 3 and 4 and a die crack extending to Liberty's head.
I got an opportunity to pick up these new designs, for not much money. And, since they don't get down south very often, I grabbed them.
Nice. I don't even collect quarters but I'd paid that on the spot for that without hesitation. I don't even care what Greysheet says.
Never been a grey sheet Guy. As an in hand buyer I just tend to buy what has appeal. There is some real nice frost on the obv, and highly reflective mirrors to the field, It went into a Whittman Classic, Just as a hole filler.
I was a hole filler my entire younger life as long as the female canvas in front of me gave me a gleam in my eye.
I decided to do something quite strange with my Type Set. I been toying with the idea of having both a "Low-Ball" circulated Morgan, a mint-state "monster" toned Morgan, and a DMPL Morgan to show the broad range of how these popular coins can look. Its the only type in my set that I plan on doing this for. So far, I have lowball, and now I have the DMPL, in my all time favorite holder. Only problem is a large chip out of the holder in the top-left, which I did not notice until I already purchased the coin and had it in-hand. Coin is very flashy, with a nice cameo type look. Also affordable in this grade, hence I jumped on the coin.
Same here! 18 years. That should be MY COIN! I am so envious! This date is driving me nuts. Sadly, all I have is this hole filler that most likely will not straight grade. It was cheap, though.
For some time now I have been building a small suite of colonial and post-colonial coins. These are my latest additions via my LCS. I also picked up a couple of colonial notes which I post on the paper money forum. AU 50 BN. Double Head Washington. MS-63 BN Period. Virginia Half Penny. I also picked up an AU-55 Mott token with a thick plain edge but PCGS doesn't have a photo to share. There is a large cud to the top left of the clock. I might return this one.
Like I said in another post - sometimes you just have to buy them when they pop up and you like them. So added this to my type set - I managed to score it right as it posted. After that an email went out that mentioned this coin.
When my wife and I traveled we learned that if you saw something that you liked it was best to purchase it then as you might not see anything like it on the rest of the trip. Nice addition to your type set.
