2026 Mayflower Quarter P and D ?

The new 2026 quarter has lots of letters and initials on the obverse and reverse - The 'P' on the obverse is obviously the Philadelphia mint mark, but what does the 'D' on the left of the reverse signify? Just curious - thanks for any info.

The reverse design was created by Cyrus E. Dallin.

 

Haven't seen ya in a while Juris. Remember back when the V.D.B. was too much for the public, one set of initials. Now everyone gets theirs? I have always been a promoter of simplicity. We spend way too much money paying for our designs than caring about the cost.
Lets go back to a team of engravers, produce some eye appealing coin that doesn't cost a fortune to buy it,

 

Are you sure this is what it means? I figure with the complexities of anything to do with the government these days it means the obverse was minted in Philadelphia and the reverse was minted in Denver.

Still, it's a nice ship, to be fair.

If it were me making these decisions I'd have put both the first and last initials of that designer on it to avoid the "D" being confused with a mintmark.

 

They had to pay too much to use his design, so they only used one initial to cut costs.

 

There are two sets of initials on the obverse and the reverse. One is the designer’s initials and the other is the sculptor’s initials.
